Some patients cannot be treated comfortably in a normal appointment: very young children with extensive decay, children with special needs, and adults with severe dental phobia or a strong gag reflex.

Because we are a hospital rather than a clinic, sedation and general anaesthesia are available in a properly monitored setting with an anaesthetist, which is the only way this should be done.

Choosing the level of sedation

Nitrous oxide is the lightest option: the child stays awake and responsive, feels relaxed, and recovers within minutes. It suits mild to moderate anxiety and shorter procedures.

IV sedation suits longer adult procedures such as multiple extractions or implant surgery. General anaesthesia is reserved for extensive treatment in very young or special-needs children, and for patients in whom nothing else is workable.

Safety and preparation

Pre-anaesthetic assessment, fasting instructions, full intra-operative monitoring and a supervised recovery period are standard. Nothing about this is done casually.

Parents are given written pre- and post-operative instructions and a direct contact number for the first 24 hours.

What your treatment journey looks like

  1. Step 1
    Consultation

Treatment need assessed and the appropriate level of sedation discussed with the family.

  2. Step 2
    Medical workup

Pre-anaesthetic evaluation, investigations where indicated and fasting instructions.

  3. Step 3
    Treatment

All planned dentistry completed in one session under monitored sedation or anaesthesia.

  4. Step 4
    Recovery & review

Supervised recovery, discharge instructions and a follow-up appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is general anaesthesia safe for a small child?

In a hospital setting with a qualified anaesthetist and full monitoring, it is safe and routinely performed. The risks are discussed individually at the pre-anaesthetic assessment.

How much dentistry can be done in one session?

Usually all of it — that is the point. Multiple fillings, crowns and extractions are completed in a single visit instead of many distressing appointments.

I am an adult who is terrified of dentists. Can I have this?

Yes. Adult dental phobia is a legitimate indication for sedation and we treat a substantial number of patients this way.

Why this matters for your case

Sedation & Dental Care Under GA in a hospital setting, not a single chair

Most dental care in Jaipur is delivered from single-chair clinics. The difference shows up when a case needs bone work, sedation, inpatient monitoring or a second speciality on the same day.
