A dental implant is a medical-grade titanium root placed into the jawbone to support a crown, bridge or full arch of teeth. Unlike a removable denture, an implant is fixed, does not slip while eating and transmits chewing forces into the bone the way a natural root does.

Who is a good candidate?
Most adults with one or more missing teeth can have implants. What matters is the quality and volume of bone at the site, healthy gums and controlled general health. Diabetes, thyroid conditions and blood pressure are not barriers as long as they are well managed.
Where bone has shrunk after years of a missing tooth, we rebuild it with bone grafting or a sinus lift before or alongside implant placement. In severe upper jaw resorption, zygomatic implants can avoid extensive grafting altogether.
Full-arch solutions for all missing teeth
If you have lost all your teeth in one jaw, four to six implants can carry a complete fixed bridge. This restores about ninety per cent of natural chewing efficiency and prevents the facial collapse that long-term denture wear causes.

How long do implants last?
With good hygiene and regular reviews, implant fixtures routinely serve for decades. The crown on top is a wearing part and may need replacement after ten to fifteen years — much like a tyre on a well-maintained car.
The main long-term risk is peri-implantitis, gum inflammation around the implant. It is preventable with professional cleaning twice a year and correct home care, which our hygiene team teaches you in detail.

Is implant surgery painful?
The procedure itself is done under local anaesthesia and is comfortable. Most patients describe the recovery as milder than a tooth extraction, and simple painkillers manage it for a day or two.
How soon can I eat normally?
You can eat soft food the same day. Normal chewing on the implant begins once the final crown is fitted, or immediately in selected immediate-loading cases.
Are implants better than a bridge?
In most cases yes, because an implant does not require cutting the healthy neighbouring teeth and preserves the bone at the missing tooth site.
