Our Centre for Kids Dentistry is a dedicated paediatric service — separate approach, child-appropriate timings, and clinicians who work with children daily rather than occasionally.
The clinical work matters, but the first appointment matters more. A child who is rushed, held down or frightened becomes an adult who avoids dentists until something is unsalvageable.
Milk teeth matter
The most common thing we hear is that a decayed milk tooth will fall out anyway. It will — but often years later, and in the meantime it causes pain, infection, disturbed sleep, poor eating and damage to the permanent tooth developing directly beneath it.
Early loss of a milk molar also allows the permanent teeth to drift into the space, creating crowding that later needs orthodontic treatment.
Prevention that actually works
Fissure sealants on permanent molars, applied soon after they erupt at around six and twelve years, are one of the highest-value interventions in all of dentistry. They are painless, quick and require no anaesthesia.
Fluoride varnish twice a year, correct brushing supervised by a parent until around age eight, and controlling the frequency — not just the quantity — of sugar are the rest of it.
Anxious and special-needs children
Tell-show-do, short appointments and building trust across visits works for the large majority of children.
Where a child is very young, highly anxious, or has special needs and the treatment need is substantial, sedation or treatment under general anaesthesia in a hospital setting is safer and kinder than repeated distressing attempts.

Frequently asked questions
When should my child first see a dentist?
By the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. Early visits are about prevention and familiarity, not treatment.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Modern digital radiographs use a very low dose and are taken only where they will change the treatment decision. We do not take routine films by default.
My child is terrified. What can you do?
Start with a no-treatment familiarisation visit. Most children settle over two or three short visits; for those who do not, sedation options are discussed openly with parents.
